Troubleshoot Praxis Mine
Begin with the observed symptom. Preserve the error, version, selected path, and command before reinstalling or deleting anything.
Before using the terminal examples in this guide, change to codex/praxis-mine/skills/praxis-mine/ inside the extracted complete kit. This is the skill root containing SKILL.md and scripts/. If you are working from an installed copy, use its corresponding skill root.
The release verifier fails
- Confirm you are running
python tools/verify_release.py . --component-onlyfrom the extracted complete-kit root. - Get a fresh complete ZIP from the product’s Additional Files and run the included verifier again. Do not repair the archive by recompressing it.
- If verification still fails, preserve the findings and file an issue with the release version and operating system.
Do not continue to installation when archive paths, manifests, hashes, or runtime files fail verification.
The plugin installs but Praxis Mine is not discoverable
- Confirm the installed plugin root contains
.codex-plugin/plugin.json. - Confirm the manifest version is
1.2.1andskillspoints to./skills/. - Start a fresh task or chat after the host reloads plugins.
-
Invoke Praxis Mine by name once:
Use Praxis Mine to assess this outside skill.
- If another copy exists, identify its path and version before disabling or removing it.
A copied folder is not evidence that the host discovered it. Preserve the host’s plugin listing or error.
Claude rejects the Skill ZIP
- Use
claude/praxis-mine-v1.2.1.zipunchanged. - Run the included complete-kit verifier to check this embedded archive against its manifest and hash.
- Confirm the current Claude product and workspace expose custom Skills.
- Upload the unchanged Claude archive from the verified complete kit.
If archive verification passes and the host still rejects it, preserve the exact host message. Recompression changes the reviewed bytes and is not an evidence-preserving fix.
The visual explorer is empty or unavailable
A fresh data home starts empty. Use Ledger tools to record a source and finding, or import a native mining manifest. The release contains no personal research ledger. If a different collection was expected, check the selected data-home path before importing or editing.
If the local session expires, reopen the workspace through Open.cmd or Open.command, then use Refresh. If it still cannot open the ledger, preserve the launch error and follow the mine-room recovery guidance.
Python is not found
Install or select Python 3.11 or newer, then reopen the terminal and run:
python --version
If the host uses python3 instead of python, substitute that command consistently. Do not install unrelated packages; Praxis Mine uses the standard library.
The ledger cannot create its data home
- Note the selected path and error.
-
Choose an existing directory where the active process has write permission:
python scripts\praxis_mine.py --data-home C:\path\you\control\praxis-data init - Confirm the command reports
"healthy": true.
A host grant, operating-system permission, and actual process identity all affect file writes. Do not weaken system security or broadly grant a shell merely to satisfy the default path.
A repeated ingest creates unexpected revisions
Compare the manifest bytes, normalized fields, file paths, and content hashes. The same semantic idea in different JSON or at a different path may carry different provenance. Revisions are expected when a record’s normalized payload changes.
A report path already exists
Praxis Mine refuses to overwrite reports. Choose a new filename:
python scripts/praxis_mine.py --data-home .\praxis-data report --output .\praxis-report-2.md
Delete or replace an old report only after deciding it is no longer needed. The ledger remains the durable source.
An evaluation returns a weaker disposition than expected
Inspect decision_gaps, the baseline/comparison and actual license conclusion, then the security, privacy, license, cost-dependency and overlap scores. Severe unresolved risk constrains the automatic result. A high-overlap pilot is held at monitor. Review the narrower mechanism before choosing quarry or adapt.
Do not tune scores to obtain a preferred label. Improve the evidence, narrow the candidate, or design a safer test.
Escalate with useful evidence
Follow Support. Include the exact boundary, version, host, command or prompt, expected result, observed result, and validator output. Remove secrets and unrelated private data.
An old pilot now appears in triage
Open the finding and read its historical evaluation. A changed material/source snapshot or older unbound assessment requires a new evaluation. Cosmetic titles and owner project tags do not invalidate the bound material. Preserve the historical result and assess the current candidate; a replay for a new revision creates a new evaluation identity.
Missing home, unsupported schema or integrity error
Check the exact selected path first. Status/report never initialize a new home; use init only when you intend a new collection. Preserve an incompatible or unhealthy home unchanged and use its compatible runtime or a verified recovery copy. Do not edit schema-version metadata to make the error disappear. An ordinary failed import/evaluation is rolled back and can be retried after correcting its stated cause. Preserve the original input and error if a process or power interruption leaves state uncertain.
